Why did the list I created not save after exiting Scottrader?

In order to make permanent changes to a list, you need to use either Create List or Edit List. Using Add Symbols or Delete only makes temporary changes to a list. Create List and Edit Lists are found under the Stock Lists button.

Make sure your list has a list name. If you do not have a name for your list you will be unable to save any changes. Re-create your list with a list name so you can edit and save changes. Do not enter any spaces in your list name.

If you have tried using the information here and are still unable to save a list, e-mail us with details and your account number.

When I click the Scottrader link, nothing happens.

First check that your system meets the requirements necessary to access the Scottrader quote system. See System Requirements.

If your system meets the necessary requirements, make sure that you do not have any pop-up inhibiting software enabled. Many Internet Service Providers are now including pop-up inhibiting software. Some of these include America Online, Earthlink and MSN. This software is also available for download from the Internet. Pop-up inhibiters can block access to the Scottrader. Pop-up inhibitors have to be disabled or have to be set to allow pop-ups for our site in order to access the Scottrader.

I am only able to load the initial welcome page. How can I correct this?

If you are only able to load the initial welcome Scottrader page, but nothing loads after this, you will need to download the latest Java Runtime Environment (JRE).   The Java Runtime Environment is what makes it possible to run Java with your Scottrader application. Scottrade recommends JRE version 6 Update 1.

To download JRE, click the download available for your Operating System below:

Operating System

Java Runtime Environment Download Location

Microsoft Windows

To install the latest version of the Java Runtime Environment (JRE), follow the instructions below:

Verify Java Install Now

Install Java

Note: Your computer must remain connected to the Internet during the installation.

  1. Click Here to download the Java Runtime Environment

  2. After clicking on the download link, you will be brought to the Java web page that displays the Free Java Download button.

  3. Click on the "Free Java Download" button similar to the one shown here.

Recommended Version 6 Update 1 (filesize: ~7.1 MB)

  1. Follow the prompts to install Java, agreeing with the license and selecting a typical install.

  2. When you have successfully downloaded Java for Windows, you should see a task bar pop-up message indicating that Java (TM) Platform, Standard Edition has been installed:

You will then be prompted to verify your installation.  Click on the Verify Installation button as shown below.  You may also verify by clicking here

You will then receive a congratulations message upon completing the verification.

Macintosh

Click here to download the Java Runtime Environment for Macintosh

Proceed to the Macintosh support website that includes instructions for downloading the latest Java

  1. Download Java from Apple website (Macintosh OS X)

  2. Java has become the de-facto standard language for developing cross-platform applications. Recognizing this, Apple has made Java a core component of Mac OS X. Mac OS X includes the full version of Java 2, Standard Edition meaning you have the Java Developer Kit (JDK) and the HotSpot virtual machine (VM) without downloading, installing or configuring anything. And because Apple has optimized Java on Mac OS X, Java applications act as first-class citizens on Mac OS X.

I am using a Macintosh. Are there any special setups I need to know about?

If you are using a Macintosh, you need to setup the system to Use Mac Menus. If you do not set this up, the menu on the Stock Lists button will immediately disappear. To enable this setting, click the Display button at the top and then check the box in front of this option.

Because Mac users are unable to right-click, double-click the symbol and drag it to the bottom right section of the Stock List screen to quickly access Time & Sales, Quick Quote, Option Chains, Charts, or the to Delete a row. These features will appear with an explanation at the bottom left.

If you have any problems connecting, check the Requirements and the Java Settings explanations above.

How do I retrieve quotes on Options, Indices and Mutual Funds?

Certain symbols need special characters entered before the symbol in order to retrieve a quote.

I am using Cable or DSL and the Scottrader will not load or gives a "Page Cannot be displayed" message.

First, if you have a personal firewall installed, disable it and see if this corrects the problem. If this corrects the problem and you still want to use the firewall, you will need to check the firewall manual or contact the firewall supplier.

There are also routers that are used with Cable and DSL connections. These could need to be reset due to an outage or some other issue. Contact your Internet Service Provider or the router manufacturer for assistance.
